The Department of Social Services (DSS) and the Department of Education (SCDE) are working to provide Pandemic EBT benefits to qualifying children across South Carolina. P-EBT is a federal program designed to provide food benefits to children who have temporarily lost access to free and reduced-price meals at school due to school closures triggered by COVID-19. Eligible children will receive P-EBT benefits based on the number of days they attend school virtually.
To qualify for these benefits, students must have:
- attended more than 5 days of virtual instruction as a virtual or hybrid student during the 2020-2021 school year.
- received free/reduced lunch or attended school in a Community Eligibility School (all of our schools are CEP schools).
Benefits for the months of August through December of 2020 will be mailed to the address your school has listed in PowerSchool beginning on April 16, 2021.
If you would like to verify that DSS has your correct address, you may verify the address at the link below.
https://benefitsportal.dss.sc.gov/#/pebt/addressverification
Addresses should be verified by March 19, 2021.
In order to verify the address, you must have your child’s student number from PowerSchool. You may find your child’s student number in the PowerSchool portal under Demographic Information. If you contact the school to obtain your child’s student number, you will be asked to verify demographic information about your child to confirm your identity. We highly recommend using the PowerSchool portal to obtain the student number.
Should you find that your address in the DSS verification portal is incorrect, you must update the address information in the portal and with your child’s school in order to insure you receive future benefits.
Please note, as a program partner, Lexington Four provides student and attendance data to DSS via SCDE. Additional answers regarding the P-EBT program may be found at https://dss.sc.gov or by contacting the agency directly.
