Swansea High School Wins Leadership Awards and Qualifies for Nationals
On January 15 and 16, members of the Swansea High School Senior Beta Club competed at the SC Junior Beta Convention in the Leadership Summit challenges to earn a place at the National Beta Club Convention in Fort Worth, Texas.
Freshmen Meadow Brantley, Abby Brunson, Alex Rubio-Figueroa, Hannah Rivers, Nevaeh Sutton, and Cottia Taylor presented the Service Learning Showcase on the Fall Festival project. They identified, designed, and carried out a service project that addressed at least one real community need. They showcased the community need and highlight the creative service project in expo format.
Caleb Brunson, Gabby Cruz, Alex Mack and Devin Sease competed in the Lead Outside the Box challenge, where students were given the challenge and give 24 hours to come up with a solution and present that solution to the judges. They were given a real-world problem at the beginning of the event. On the second day of the event, they gave a two minute presentation of how they solved the given problem followed by a question/answer segment.
Gabby Cruz, Tyler Wyatt, Bailey Speares, Lena Breymeyer, Addison Sanders, Madison Bloome, Alex Mack and Mallory Gerkin participated in the Rapid Response Challenge. The students engaged in a quick, creative, and critical thinking challenge. The team members must think on their feet by applying collaborative leadership skills to produce a response in a certain time frame. The challenge was be a combination of performance-based and task-based problem solving.
All groups qualified for the National Convention June 15-18 in Fort Worth, Texas. Swansea High School was also named a Leadership School.
