Tiger Volleyball Looking Forward to a Great Season
The Swansea High School varsity volleyball team is looking forward to a great 2021 season. Head Coach Miranda Hall Williams is optimistic about the team’s prepapration and performance and is excited to have started this year’s campaign with two consecutive wins in home and away match ups against Eau Claire High School. At home, the Tigers beat the Shamrocks in three straight sets, then traveled to Eau Claire where they won two straight sets, dropped two sets, but battled until the end to secure the win in the fifth set. These were great wins for the program.
This season, Coach Hall Williams notes that the number one goal of the team is to come together more as a family. Hall Williams highlighted that even though the players are individuals, they are individuals playing a team sport, and the mistakes of one affects all. She wants her players to realize this truth but also not to allow errors to have a snowball effect on a game or on the team as a whole. She advises her team to make relevant corrections and move on to the next play, rather than dwelling on mistakes.
Similar to other teams across the state, the Tigers’ 2021 season is limited to eighteen games due to Covid 19. As such, only three scrimmages and three games will be played before the start of region play. However, with a majority of the squad being returning players, the Tigers are up for the challenge. Led by senior captains Breanna Blackburn and Anna Smith, along with young leadership from freshman Ivy Collins, the Swansea Tiger squad is always ready to play!
