SHS Student Parking Expectations

Vehicles parked on Swansea High School property are under the jurisdiction of the school. Students are expected to exit vehicles promptly when arriving to school and should not sit in their vehicles.

● Driving to school and parking on the school campus is a privilege, NOT A RIGHT.
● Any student wishing to park a vehicle on a SHS parking lot is required to purchase a permit PRIOR to driving on campus.
● Permission to park in the SHS parking lot is granted subject to all rules and regulations of the school.  By entering the parking lot, the person driving the vehicle is giving consent to a complete search of the vehicle by school officials or the police.  The school reserves the right to search any vehicle if reasonable suspicion exists to do so, with or without the presence of the student.
● A student will be held responsible for any prohibited objects or substances such as alcohol, drugs, and weapons that are found in said vehicle and may be subject to disciplinary action by SHS, as well as referred for criminal prosecution.
● If a student’s vehicle is found on campus without a permit, a permit will be issued to the student and the permit fee and violation fee will be added to the student's account.
● PERMIT FEE: $25.00.  This price will remain the same price throughout the school year and will not be pro-rated based on the purchase date.  This is non-refundable. This is for general student parking.
● PLACEMENT: The parking permit is to be hung on the rearview mirror of the vehicle with the parking permit identification numbers facing the windshield.
● Permits are good from August 17th until the last day of school of the school year and will be issued throughout the year as long as space is available.
● Sharing parking permits is NOT permitted.
● A student has full responsibility for the security of the vehicle and must make certain it is locked and that the keys are not given to others.
● Any student parked in a handicapped parking space, without a handicapped permit, in a striped area,or in a space other than is designated for students, is subject to the vehicle being ticketed, immobilized (booted), or loss of parking privileges.
● Any type of reckless driving (speeding, driving over curbs, etc.) on SHS property at any time (schoolday/non-school day) will result in automatic suspension of driving privileges.
● SHS will not refund parking permit fees to students who have had their driving privileges suspended.
● Lost or stolen parking permits will have to be replaced at full cost.
